We had a lot of shows and awards for art this year. First, there was the annual Jefferson County Elementary Show at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. We had 16 artists showcased. The next show was for our middle school students again at the Botanical Gardens in which 5 artists shown. Every year one piece of artwork is selected to be in the Jefferson County School Board show down at central office and one talented 8th grader was selected. This artwork is up for an entire year in the halls of central office. I encourage you to stop by if you're in the area. It is fantastic! Also, on awards day I awarded two artists for each grade (K-4) who stood out to me in art for their behavior, attitude, and creativity. I choose four artists for 5th grade and 6th grade and two artists for 7th and 8th grade. It really was a difficult task deciding because I have sooooo many deserving students. I guess it's a good problem to have.
And now for a sneak announcement (!!!!)....
At the end of the year, we had some special visitors from the state school board. During their visit, I was busy putting up all the artwork for the end of the year show. They saw how wonderful the artists in Corner really are and requested 30-50 pieces to be framed and sent to the state office to hang in the halls down in Montgomery!!! I gleefully gathered some of the beautiful pieces my students created and will soon announce those special artists at school! Corner is the ONLY school with this amazing honor! Way to go, Corner artists!!!
Last, I wanted to give you a close up of some of the art displayed from this year:
