We have had a great first week of school in the Corner Art Classroom!
We are starting and finishing projects, getting to know one another, and being creative!
On the first day of class, I asked the 8th, 7th, 6th, and 5th grade classes three questions:
1. What is art?
2. What or Who is an artist?
3. What are your goals for art this year?
I got A LOT of wonderful and thoughtful responses. I was really impressed with what every student had to say and it was interesting to hear their thoughts on art since many had never had art before now. Here are few of their answers:
What is art?

I hung their answers on big sheets of paper outside of my classroom for everyone to see and also to serve as a reminder to the students on their definitions of art and what an artist is, as well as their goals for the year.
Kindergarten through second grades have been coloring "The prettiest butterflies they have NEVER seen." We talked about what colors, designs, and patterns we would like to see on a butterfly and they were able to do just that. They seemed to really enjoy coming up with different ways to color their butterflies. They are currently being hung outside of my classroom. I will get pictures of the display as soon as the last class finishes theirs on Friday.
Third and fourth grades are working on a self portrait project that will be combined to make one large display. I think its going to be really fun in the end! Hint: It was inspired by "Where's Waldo?"
Fifth through eighth grades are working on a Robert Indiana inspired drawing. They should be finishing by the end of the week so come back for more details and images of their great artwork!
